Key Facts about Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA)

  • State Government in its notification dated 23.07.1999 has defined the area under PMRDA.
  • In order to have planned development in Pune Metropolitan area it is necessary that a Development Authority is constituted.
  • As per the orders of State Government 30 members have been elected on the Metropolitan Planning committee.
  • State Government has to nominate 15 members.
  • PMRDA will be the executive wing of the MPC.
  • PMRDA can work as a Development Authority to acquire land, develop and sell OR only as a Planning Authority like Municipal Corporations.
  • The executive wing is essential to enforce the regional plan provisions and ensure planned growth.
  • The note regarding this has been already submitted to Urban Development Department.

PMRDA to develop infrastructure :

"The establishment of PMRDA would lead to development of infrastructure in the Pune metropolitan areas from Daund to Lonavla.

It would help in development of satellite areas with rapid public transport, which would ultimately make affordable housing possible as there would not be anymore excessive emphasis on city areas," Divisional commissioner Dilip Band, said.

He said that the PMRDA would work with involvement of public in development as instead of land acquisition, there would be demarcation of land for certain purposes and the private owners would be encouraged to develop those facilities
